Cape Town, Are You Ready? The Local Fashion Police Is Bringing the Masterclass to the Mother City South African fashion is having a conversation — and Cape Town is next. The Local Fashion Police is taking over the Mother City this Friday, 28 August, bringing its 2026 masterclass series to Cape Town in partnership with FEDISA. And this is more than another fashion event. Now in its sixth year, Proudly South African’s Local Fashion Police has evolved from a social media campaign celebrating local style into a platform that puts South African creativity, craftsmanship and the business of fashion firmly in the spotlight. The Cape Town masterclass arrives at a particularly exciting moment for the local fashion industry. With conversations around sustainability, local production, entrepreneurship and the growing pressure from international fast-fashion and e-commerce platforms, knowing how to create a beautiful product is only one part of the equation. The bigger question is: Do you know how to build the business behind it? That is where the masterclass comes in. Proudly South African has designed the masterclass series to give emerging fashion entrepreneurs access to practical industry knowledge and insights from established designers. The aim is to help the next generation understand how to scale their businesses, navigate the realities of the fashion industry and turn creative ideas into sustainable brands. And Cape Town couldn't be a more fitting stop. The city has long been a breeding ground for designers, stylists, creatives, entrepreneurs and fashion students who are pushing South African fashion forward. From independent labels to established names making waves beyond our borders, Cape Town continues to prove that local creativity has international potential. The 2026 Local Fashion Police judging panel brings together Mpumelelo “Lele” Dhlamini of Ezokhetho, Thabo Makhetha-Kwinana of Thabo Makhetha, Anel Botha of Anel Botha Couture and Rivaldo of By Waldo — four designers representing different perspectives, aesthetics and approaches to South African fashion. That diversity is exactly what makes the masterclass worth paying attention to. Because there isn't one formula for building a successful fashion brand. There is, however, a need for more conversations about the realities behind the glamour: pricing, positioning, production, branding, customers, growth, resilience and what it actually takes to turn talent into a business. And while the masterclass is about the industry, the message behind Local Fashion Police is much bigger. Wear local. Buy local. Build local. The campaign continues to encourage South Africans to consciously support locally produced fashion, recognising that every purchase can contribute to the growth of the country's clothing, textile, footwear and leather sectors. There is also a little competition involved. Fashion lovers participating in the 2026 Local Fashion Police campaign can post themselves wearing their favourite local look on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or LinkedIn, tag Proudly South African and FP&M SETA, and use #LocalFashionPolice2026 and #LovedHereMadeHere. Four winners will each receive R50 000 worth of fashion from a Local Fashion Police designer — along with the opportunity to walk the runway at the grand finale on 19 November 2026. But before the runway, before the cameras and before the winners are announced, there is the work. The learning. The networking. The uncomfortable conversations about what it really takes to survive and thrive as a creative entrepreneur. And on Friday, Cape Town gets its turn. For the emerging designer with a sketchbook full of ideas. For the fashion student wondering what comes after graduation. For the creative trying to turn a side hustle into a serious business. For anyone who believes South African fashion deserves a bigger seat at the table. This one is for you. Cape Town, the Local Fashion Police are coming. The question is: are you ready to show up? Local Fashion Police 2026 Cape Town Masterclass takes place on Friday, 28 August 2026, in partnership with FEDISA. #LocalFashionPolice2026 #LovedHereMadeHere #ProudlySouthAfrican #IRRISIBLE #CapeTownFashion #SouthAfricanFashion
