Redefining Strength

Redefining Strength, Healing Wounds, and Choosing Softness: A Love Letter to Modern Womanhood When you look back through history, you realize just how far we’ve come. Across generations, the standards set for us have shifted, our goals have evolved, and most importantly, the *why* behind everything we do has completely transformed. We are no longer living by script or staying within the lines someone else drew for us. We’ve become more educated, more united, and in the process, we’ve completely redefined what it means to be strong. In a world where social media often gets a bad rap, something beautiful has happened in the quiet corners of it. Through our screens, we’ve connected with women whose faces we’ve never touched and whose voices we’ve never heard in person. Yet, we’ve turned these digital spaces into soft landing pads—places where help is freely offered, advice flows like tea, and an unbreakable sisterhood is built. Distance doesn't matter anymore. We’ve cultivated a sprawling, beautiful global family of mothers, aunties, grandbabies, and sisters who genuinely show up for each other. The Women Who Made Me If you were to sit me down and ask me what sets this generation of women apart, I wouldn't give you a textbook answer. I’d just tell you my story. I’d tell you about how the women of today saved me, held space for me, and helped shape the person I am. They taught me to be someone who strives for better, reaches for more, and—above all—gives herself permission to just *exist*. > I know it might sound a little strange to say out loud—that all I want is to just exist. But if we’re being completely honest with ourselves, isn’t that what we all crave? To just be, without carrying the heavy weight of having to constantly prove our worth? What moves me most about us right now is our radical, unfiltered honesty. We aren't hiding behind perfection anymore. We talk openly about the embarrassing moments that make us cringe, the heartbreaks that brought us to our knees, the hard-learned lessons, the wild adventures, and the taboo topics that older generations felt forced to whisper about. We’ve taken the shame out of our stories and turned them into teachable moments—gentle light posts for the women walking behind us. Choosing Softness in a Heavy World I know that when most people see a headline about womanhood, they expect a heavy, serious dive into systemic inequalities and how toxic the world can be. And listen—I’m not saying those things don't matter or that we shouldn't talk about them. They do. But this isn't for that. This piece is meant to be a moment of lightness. Think of it as a little bit of sparkle, a warm hug, and a reminder to breathe in the middle of a chaotic life. When I look around and see women being just a little bit gentler with themselves and their growth, my whole heart smiles. We are slowly, deliberately putting down the heavy armor. We are detaching from this exhausting expectation to always be the "strong black woman" or the "unshakable pillar" the world demands us to be. Instead, we’re allowing ourselves to be complex, whimsical, and free: * *Powerhouses in the boardroom* making moves, taking up space, and claiming what's ours. * **Dreamers in the night** stepping into magic, playfulness, and peace when the work is done. * **Creating our own rules** and designing our lives like custom Barbies—shaped strictly by *our* standards, *our* goals, and *our* unique personalities. We are peeling off the labels people tried to stick on us and we are finally *becoming*. Becoming women who love deeply, romanticize the small moments, and do the hard, sacred work of learning who we really are. We are reaching back in time to hold the hands of our inner children, healing the old, inherited wounds that were passed down through generations. We are looking at our pasts and saying with absolute clarity: the pain ends with us. --- ## We Are Happier Now If I had to look you in the eye and tell you the biggest change I’ve witnessed in modern womanhood, I would tell you this with so much pride: **we are happier.** Are we everywhere we need to be? No. We still have a long, steep road ahead of us economically, politically, and medically. But the difference now is the feeling in the room. We aren't walking that road isolated or afraid anymore. We have each other, and that makes us unstoppable. --- ## A Note for You This Women’s Month In celebration of Women’s Month, I want to take a breath and truly applaud you. I want to celebrate the quiet, unseen work you’ve been doing on yourself, and the love you pour into the people around you. Please trust me when I say that your small acts of kindness—a supportive comment on a post, a thoughtful check-in text, a warm smile to a stranger, or the space you hold for a friend—have saved lives. You have kept hope alive for another woman without even knowing it. I am so deeply proud of you. I love you. You matter, you are needed, and you belong here.
